What converts natively (and what doesn't)
| Feature | Result in the HTML |
|---|---|
| Headings 1–6 | Native — Real <h1>–<h6> elements |
| Bold, italic, strikethrough | Native — <strong>, <em>, <del> |
| Links | Native — <a href> with javascript:/data:/file: URLs stripped |
| Bulleted, numbered and task lists | Native — <ul>/<ol> plus disabled checkbox inputs for tasks |
| GFM tables | Native — Semantic <table> markup with alignment styles |
| Code blocks | Native — Fenced <pre><code class="language-…"> — highlighting is yours to style |
| Blockquotes | Native — <blockquote> elements |
| Images | Native — Inline references kept exactly as written; nothing is fetched |
| Footnotes | Native — A real linked notes section at the end of the document |
| Math (LaTeX) | Native — Rendered as HTML math — real sub/superscripts, stacked fractions, overlined √ — for the supported subset (engine v0.4.0); anything else stays styled source text, flagged |
| Raw HTML | Opt-in — Off by default; when enabled it runs through a strict sanitization allowlist |
| Front-matter (YAML) | Native — title/author/description map to the page <title> and meta description/author; other keys are listed in the report |
Full element-by-element ground truth, with test dates: format support.
What this tool does not do
- No: Bare-fragment output — the engine emits the complete styled page (fragment mode is planned)
- No: Custom themes or CSS — the embedded stylesheet is fixed
- No: Syntax highlighting — code blocks carry a language class you can style yourself
What people use Markdown to HTML for
Frequently asked questions
Is the output safe to publish?
Yes. Raw HTML in the input is disabled by default and output is sanitized — no scripts are ever included.
Can I get a styled standalone page?
Yes — choose 'Standalone document' to get a complete HTML file with scoped clean styling, no external dependencies.
Is the HTML safe to publish as-is?
Yes. Raw HTML in your Markdown is off by default, and when enabled the passthrough runs through a strict allowlist — scripts, event handlers and unsafe URLs cannot survive. Links and images are URL-checked too.
Does the output need the internet?
No. The stylesheet is inlined and nothing is fetched — no external fonts or scripts — so the page works offline, from a file, or from a USB stick.
Can I get just the fragment without <html> and CSS?
The engine exports the complete styled page; a bare-fragment mode is planned. Today you can copy the section between the <body> tags.
How is this different from the Markdown → Image tool?
This produces real, selectable HTML markup for publishing; the image tool renders a snapshot card for chat and social posts. Same engine, different output.
Is the generated HTML SEO-friendly?
Yes — the output is semantic HTML5: real h1–h6 headings, strong/em elements, semantic table markup and language-tagged code blocks, with no inline scripts or external dependencies for crawlers to trip over.
Can I paste the output into WordPress or a CMS?
Yes. The markup is standard HTML with an inlined stylesheet — paste the section between the body tags into a Custom HTML block, or use the whole file as a standalone page.
